Village of Mundelein is Hiring an Accountant Near Mundelein, IL

Distinguishing Features of Class
The Village of Mundelein is seeking applicants for the position of Accountant. This position is responsible for maintaining the fiscal records and system of the Village, including serving as a backup for Accounts Payable and Utility Billing. This position performs daily and monthly general ledger processes and prepares the required year-end audit schedules, and other special projects as needed.
Essential Job Duties
The essential job duties below are equally of importance and must be performed in order for the incumbent to be successful. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Reconcile and prepare schedules of receipts for daily deposits, interest on investments, telecommunications tax, sales tax, income tax, property tax and other major revenues.
  • Prepare journal entries for payroll transactions, reconcile payroll withholding liabilities, and do required payroll reporting.
  • Prepare and post journal entries and monthly financial reports.
  • Perform monthly bank account reconciliations.
  • Maintain Fixed Asset records.
  • Serve as backup for Accounts Payable and Utility Billing.
  • Assist with annual 1099 reporting.
  • Assist with the annual audit to include preparation of work papers and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with annual budget process.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, preferably with at least two (2) years of accounting experience, or any combination of relevant education and experience to perform the position's responsibilities successfully.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary for this position is $79,202. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to advance a step within the salary range on an annual basis. The Village offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, flexible spending account, enrollment into the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension system, vacation time, float days, holiday, and sick time.
